What is Biomechanics?

A white horse gracefully trotting indoors with a quote about balance and collection.

On the most fundamental level, a horse and riders’ bodies are two mechanical systems. The study of Biomechanics is a science-based approach that aims to improve rider body awareness and control to get those two systems to work harmoniously together. By influencing posture, muscle tone, and range of motion, we can reduce tension and resistance, allowing for the "gears" in the machines to operate more smoothly.

Often, subtle adjustments yield profound results, allowing riders to maximize their potential in the saddle. When facing challenges, the root cause is considered vs addressing symptoms. Through better balance, control, and more effective delivery of the aids, harmony and communication are enhanced.  Skills will be taught using a combination of exercises, as well as demonstration and hands on tools that enhance proprioceptive feedback.
